Joe K.

Statement

I met Joe when I worked at the Texas House of Representatives in the Photography Department. He had been with the House for 24 years at the time, and we became fast friends. As the runner for our department, he was seen and known throughout the Capitol complex. In December of 2005, Joe's family decided it was time for him to retire because his memory was beginning to fail him and he would often end up in dangerous situations.

This project took form around the time I was leaving Austin and my time with Joe was drawing to an end. At the time, he lived on one side of a duplex while his elderly mother lived on the other side. However, since that time his family has moved him to Dallas, as she was no longer able to take care of him.
